  • Number of accidents, claims or losses in last 3 years must not exceed 2, regardless of fault
  • Number of penalty points in last 3 years must not exceed 6
  • Resident in UK for 12 months minimum
  • Has a current permanent address as stated throughout this application (please note you may be asked to provide proof of residence in the event of a claim)
  • Has not ever been refused insurance, had a policy cancelled or voided
  • No driving ban in the last 60 months
  • No conviction for any criminal offence or any possible prosecution pending.

  • Social, Domestic and Pleasure or Social, Domestic and Pleasure + Commercial use only – usage will be restricted to social domestic and pleasure purposes, which includes commuting and personal business use only
  • Vehicle must be registered in the UK
  • Foreign use is not permitted
  • Not for exporting – journeys must start and end in the UK
  • Is not imported or left-hand drive and not modified (factory fitted extras or modifications for a disabled driver or passenger, or LPG conversions are acceptable).
  • Has no more than 8 seats and is not a rental or hire vehicle (if commercial – no more than 5 seats)
  • Must not be modified. LPG conversions and Disabled Modified are acceptable
  • Have a valid MOT (if required), is
  • NOT declared as SORN (off-road) with DVLA and has NOT been seized by the police.
  • Not to be used for impounded or seized vehicles (unless specified as impounded cover)
  • Not to be used for any form of motor racing, pacemaking, track days, motor trade usage or hire and reward
  • Not for carrying hazardous goods or use at a hazardous location
  • There is no cover under this policy for vehicles which are insured, owned by, operated by, supplied by, hired or rented from any Claims, Credit hire or Accident Management Company.

Impounded Car Insurance

About the driver

Why do the Police seize uninsured vehicles?

Under section 165A of the Road Traffic Act 1988, the Police have the power to seize any vehicle that is being driven without a valid insurance policy or where the driver does not hold a valid driving licence. If the driver has committed the offence or the Police are unable to establish insurance cover being in place at the roadside, the car will be seized and taken to the impound, where you will be charged a release fee plus a daily storage charges until the vehicle is collected. There is a strict time limit of 14 days as explained in the S.165 notice that will be handed to you at the roadside. After this date there is a risk that your vehicle will be crushed. Can I use one day car insurance to collect my seized car?

You cannot use an insurance policy issued for one day in order to secure the release of a car collect from the a police compound. To release the vehicle the legal owner will need a special impounded vehicle insurance policy that is valid for at least 30 days. Can I have an extra driver on impounded car insurance?

It is not possible to have an extra named driver added to our impounded motor insurance policy.

How do i make a claim?

All claims must be reported within 24 hours of the incident occurring. Contact information can be found in your policy documents or use the in house claim reporting form found on our website.

What if I haven’t received my email with the documents?

Providing you entered your email address correctly; you will receive an email from us. If you do not receive a confirmation e-mail from us within the hour, please check your spam or junk mail folders. If you have still not received your documents, get in contact with us to request they are sent again.

When will my vehicle appear on the MID listing?

Once you have purchased a policy from us, your insurance details will be passed to the INSUREYOUDAILY Database (MID). They are passed within the timescales required by the MID, but due to the short term nature of these types of insurance, it is possible your policy may have expired before the details are loaded to the database. We always recommend that you print your Insurance Certificate and have this with you as this remains valid proof of your insurance and legal entitlement to drive the vehicle.

Can i cancel my policy?

Our refund policy is determined by the product purchased. Short Term Car/Van Insurance: You are entitled to cancel your policy at any time. Due to the short period nature of this policy there will be no refund of premium. Due to the short term nature of 1 to 28-day policies, there is no cooling-off period. Monthly Insurance: There is administrative charge (Please refer to our T&C’s for a breakdown)

Can I insure my SORN vehicle?

As long as your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition, and you either have tax or will tax the vehicle with our insurance certificate, we can allow insurance for this purpose. The vehicle must have a current MOT or you must have a pre-booked MOT appointment to attend whilst insured with us in order for the insurance to be valid (please check our insurers criteria before purchasing).
